Taking Steps To Save Babies Lives
Poco Nido Charity Work and Good Causes Pledge 2019
Our new collection has arrived.
We wanted to nominate a style from the new SS19 range to be a charity shoe, so you could have the option to make a #purchasewithpurpose. It's no secret that we work with brand ambassadors, they help us with content for our instagram feed because I don't have any babies anymore -well I do but they are 8 & 10. So we decided to ask one of our mummy ambassador team to select the charity. Cecilia Leslie, mother of 4 and midwife, chose Sands.
Sands, the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, is a vital support for so many parents who have lost a baby. Losing a baby at any point in the pregnancy journey would leave most of us in the deepest emotional turmoil for a very long time. Empty in more ways than one. It's such a heavy thought that those of us who have never had to experience it, tend not to dwell on it.
Sands offer support in a multitude of ways, including manning a helpline, local support groups, downloadable literature, memory boxes and memorial events. They provide free bereavement care training for healthcare professionals, ensuring that every family whose baby has died receives excellent bereavement care. They believe in taking proactive steps to find out why babies are dying, and are currently funding the AFFIRM study that asks whether encouraging women to be aware of their baby’s movements and to tell their midwife promptly if their baby’s movements have changed could help reduce the number of stillbirths. Also they have funded valuable research looking at scanning in third trimester, which is aimed at improving methods for identifying babies who are not growing as they should...the list goes on.
I am in love with this charity, and now I know more about them I feel like it's something we as a business should support because our customers are babies.
So thanks Sands for doing what you do, thanks Cecilia for nominating Sands and thanks to all of you who are planning on buying the carnival and hot air balloons styles. I know what we contribute will be a drop in the ocean but lots of drop soon add up. We're really happy to be working on this project.

Give Back Black Friday
But wait! The festive season is about more than just a sleigh load of shopping, mince pies and crooners in cardigans. Its about community and giving back a little something, festive cheer and a warm glow inside.
Here’s a little pop quiz for you
- Shopping is fun, especially when you bag some bargains.
- Babies are adorable.
- Being charitable and involved in the community around you makes you feel good.
If you answered ‘yes’ to all 3, how would you feel if I told you that you could give back to the community by shopping and that lovely, squishy babies would benefit? You’d get triple the warm fuzzies, right?
Well, you can do all that and we can help you. This year we have teamed up with the charity Baby Basics www.baby-basics.org.uk for our Give Back Black Friday sale. Plus it lasts all the way through until the end of Cyber Monday so that’s 4 whole days to get yourself countless goodies. Baby Basics is an amazing project. It is volunteer run and works with midwives, health visitors and other professional groups. Providing support to new mothers and families who struggle to meet the financial and practical responsibilities that come with having a new baby, they provide essentials and equipment such as clothing, bedding, nappies and toiletries. Not only that but they lovingly pack it in a moses basket. They help people from teenage mums to women fleeing from domestic abuse and trafficking and everything in between.
Baby Basics started at The Kings Centre in our home city of Sheffield in 2009 and there is now growing network across the country. All are staffed by volunteers which makes this all the more amazing.
Where do we come into it? Well, we will donate an item of clothing or pair of shoes for every order we receive over the 4 days of the sale. These will then go straight into the waiting moses baskets and out to the people that need them.
Every item that Baby Basics receives is donated by the community and sorted by the volunteers. If you have items you wish to donate to help them out please visit www.baby-basics.org.uk/how-to-get-involved/giving-supplies/ for details of how to do so.
So go on, feel good about getting a bargain and helping out families in need. Support us and Baby Basics from the 24th - 27th November.
